Mark Opitz is an Australian record producer, who produced many chart albums in the late 1970s and 1980s. Opitz started his career as a production engineer in television. In 1975, he started work at EMI Studio 301 as a sound engineer and worked his way up to becoming EMI's Australian house producer. His work for Cold Chisel's album East won him the 'Best Australian Producer' award at the 1980 TV Week/Countdown Music Awards. Mark is one of Australia’s most prolific producers with a career spanning over four decades with major credits including AC/DC, Bob Dylan and INXS. Mark discovered his signature, thick guitar sound that ruled airwaves for two decades whilst working with The Angels.

As well as producing some of Australia’s and the world’s most successful artists, Mark was also the Head of A&R at Warner Music. It was there that he signed The Divinyls and produced not only their works but also works by INXS, which resulted in him winning two ARIA and five ABC TV Countdown Awards.

Throughout the 90’s, Mark continued to produce several more INXS albums both at home and abroad and he was included in USA’s Billboard Producer Encyclopaedia publication. Mark remains a full voting member of both the ARIA and Grammy Awards.
